Pfeiffer to star in 'Woman'

By Liza Foreman (excerpted)

Michelle Pfeiffer has signed on to star in “I could Never Be Your Woman” for heavyweight producer Scott Rudin. Bauer Martinez is set to finance and handle distribution on the picture.

Amy Heckerling is directing the romantic comedy from her own script about a successful professional woman in trouble with her love life. The rights to the project had previously been with Paramount Pictures where Rudin was based for more than a decade.

Rudin is in the process of moving to the Walt Disney Co.

The development follows Bauer Martinez’s recent launch of a U.S. distribution arm, which has been accompanied by a wave of high-profile deals for the company.

Earlier this week, Bauer Martinez signed on to co-produce and distribute the $30 million thriller “The Flock” and “Riders on the Storm,” which John McTiernan is to direct.

The company also is set to release a number of productions including “The Groomsmen,” written and directed by Edward Burns: The comedy “Irish Jam,” starring Eddie Griffin: and “Land of the Blind,” starring Ralph Fiennes.

Pfeiffer and Heckerling are represented by CAA, which packaged the project and set up the financing with Martinez.
